From the ‘Stillness and Movement in Liturgy' Collection*

All Glory, Laud, and Honor by Joy Jennings

The ‘Stillness and Movement in Liturgy' Collection by Joy Jennings is a series of 5 oil paintings on linen. In her impressionist style, Jennings illustrates moments of stillness and gestures of movement, all the while providing a means for the viewer to consider their own participation in liturgy.

Seen together, Jennings' paintings depict everyday moments in liturgy that invite us to silence, sacrament, forgiveness, love, and communion. The intimacy of her figures prompts us to place ourselves within her paintings. and remind us that transcendent moments of faith often occur within the ordinary rhythms of going to church.

The painting titles are: "The Silence of Your Heart," "Marked As Christ's Own Forever," "All Glory, Laud, and Honor," "Forgiven, Loved, and Free," and "The Gifts of God for the People of God."

Oil on canvas, 16x20", unframed

*The entire collection, ‘Stillness and Movement in Liturgy,' is also available here.

Bio: Joy Jennings is an impressionist painter who loves stories of La Belle Époque and historical novels of the epoch of the Two World Wars. The creativity and resilience of these monumental times in our history have always inspired her, from the works of artists such as Manet, Cezanne, Béraud, Bonnard, Morisot, Degas, as well as such early twentieth century writers as Fitzgerald, Faulkner, Camus, Sartre, and always T.S. Eliot. The impact of the stories told to her of these times by her parents and grandparents created a foundational love and respect for these times.
