This piece is inspired by similarities of the early Christians and the indigenous people of America who were both subject to harsh persecution, suppression and repression. Native Americans have refused to allow their traditions, language, customs and beliefs to be repressed, despite relentless attempts by the white man to do just that. Likewise, early Christians and Christians throughout the centuries have faced repeated attempts to silence their gospel message. History has shown that a message of love and compassion and a people of great faith and depth cannot be contained, even when the world goes to great lengths to constrain them.
My intent in this piece is to honor the Native American culture and spirituality, and to convey that they are deeply loved by Jesus and are created in the divine image of God.
