The title for this piece, “Fishers of Men" is a phrase found in all four of the Gospels to describe the calling given by Jesus to his first disciples. Two brother fishermen, Simon called Peter, and Andrew, were casting a net into the Sea of Galilee. As he commenced his preaching ministry, Jesus called them to follow him and told them that in doing so they were to become "fishers of men". In the Greek language “fishers of men or people” is halieis anthrôpos. The word ‘Halieis’ is used for someone who works at the sea, or someone who has to do with the sea. ‘Anthrôpos’ means mankind or humanity. Therefore, the accurate meaning of the phrase may be described as working at the sea to catch (save) humanity. Christ followers interpret this analogy of catching fish to mean it is our responsibility to be like Jesus and cast his message out like a hook or net for fish to the entire world by being a living example of peace, love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness.
